How much is tuition?
Tuition is $2,400 per year (not including the summer term or a campus pass).
Does Dexter only focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math?
No! In addition to STEM, our students develop deep competency in the humanities through a wide range of social studies, english language arts, history, and writing courses.
Do you have to be near a Dexter campus to be a student?
No, Dexter students receive their entire academic experience digitally through our online platform. Students that live near a Dexter Hub use the space to access specialized equipment, receive mentoring from Dexter facilitators, and socialize with peers.The academic experience is not tied to any single Dexter Hub.
What does a typical day with Dexter look like?
Students are enrolled in three to six courses that meet regularly throughout the week. An average day includes two to three live instruction sessions that last up to 50 minutes, two to three small group tutoring sessions via Zoom, and daily tasks and assignments. The average student will spend from three to five hours per day on Dexter.
Why be on campus if you can do Dexter via the online platform?
Dexter campuses are magical places where students socialize with peers, have access to specialized equipment like 3D printers, and receive tutoring from campus facilitators. While Dexter may be completed completely remotely - joining a campus takes the experience to an entirely new level.
What is the student to educator ratio?
Students receive their direct instruction from our rock star educators and mentoring and support from their learning coaches. The learning coach to student ratio is approximately 25:1.
How can my child socialize if we're fully remote?
Our lives classes are interactive, so students can communicate via our monitored chat, or even participate in a livestream when appropriate.
Students can also interact and socialize during small group Zoom classes, and through our internal messaging system. We work hard to ensure that every student is included as a valued member of the community, starting with our orientation week at school.
We're also releasing functionality that will allow you to connect in-person with Dexter students in your local area.
Do students receive traditional grades and transcripts?
Yes, students receive letter grades for each of their courses that's displayed in an end of term transcript.
How are students placed into appropriate courses?
We believe in stage, not age when it comes to course placement. Our course paradigm allows for a more personalized learning experience in that an individual student might be in courses across various grade levels. Students complete diagnostics each term across the core domains to inform course placement.
Do students take standardized exams?
Yes, our students take the MAP Growth assessment each term to create an objective measure of student progress. Additionally, we use regular external metrics like the PSAT, Noetic Math Contest, Math Counts, and AMC8.
